Börse Express – Li-Metal successfully demonstrates its electrolyte processing process for carbonate-to-metal technology

Successful tests confirm the correct operation of the device Carbonate to metal units Closed-loop (C2M) technology with improved efficiency and sustainability

The results validate an important element of Li-Metal’s patented modular metal technology and further de-risk the company’s plans to establish commercial-scale metal production to support the production of ultra-thin lithium metal anodes.

Toronto, Canada, November 22, 2023 /IRW-Press/ Li-Metal (CSE: LIM) (OTCQB: LIMFF) (FSE: 5ZO) (“Li-Metal” or the “Company”), a developer of lithium metal anodes and lithium metal production technologies needed for next-generation batteries, announced today that the Company has Proven electrolyte reprocessing process. This process is a key part of supporting Li-Metal’s patented carbonate-to-metal (C2M) technology, an environmentally friendly approach to producing lithium metal, an important material in next-generation batteries.

The electrolyte processing process plays a critical role in the closed-loop operation of Li-Metal’s C2M technology. This process facilitates the conversion of excess anolyte near the anode into catholyte near the cathode. This closed-loop process improves operational efficiency and reduces waste of this valuable resource, representing a major advance in the sustainable production of lithium metal.

The successful completion of the test confirms the viability of Li-Metal’s C2M technology, an important prerequisite and key differentiator for Li-Metal’s ultra-thin lithium metal anode business. Li-Metal expects to integrate its remanufacturing process into its existing C2M pilot plant in Markham, Ontario to ensure streamlined and cost-effective operations. Li-Metal plans to demonstrate its C2M and electrolyte reprocessing technology at scale in the first quarter of 2024 as part of a metals pilot campaign. Commissioned in 2022 by global engineering partner Hatch to conduct a concept study for a commercial-scale lithium metal production facility with a capacity of 1,000 tons per year, the latest Li-Metal test results confirm the validity of the assumption that the operating cost estimates included in the study are necessary.

“Li-Metal is pleased to achieve another significant technology milestone as the company scales up its environmentally friendly C2M technology to support the production of high-performance, ultra-thin lithium metal anodes,” said Srini Godavarthy, CEO of Li-Metal. In line with our goal of optimizing resource use, our ongoing commitment to sustainability is underscored by the successful demonstration of electrolyte reprocessing, which enables closed-loop operation of our metals production process.

“In a year marked by transformative achievements, Li-Metal demonstrated its technological capabilities through the successful pilot production of engineering-grade lithium metal and its purification into battery-grade lithium metal,” the doctor said. Godavarthi continues. “We solidified our position at the forefront of lithium metal innovation by reporting the grant of our first metal production patent, and subsequently received recognition by being named to TIME’s 2023 ‘Best of Innovations’ list. Li-Metal is pleased to continue evolving its strategy For vertically integrated growth through these advancements in cost-effective modular C2M technology.”
