BCLP strengthens technology and intellectual property practice in Germany with new advisor | News

International law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (BCLP) has strengthened its technology and intellectual property dispute practice group since June 1, 2023 with the appointment of Michael Gere as counsel. This appointment underscores BCLP’s growth strategy in Germany. A total of 60 lawyers are currently working for the firm in its offices in Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg.

Geier moves to BCLP from the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, where he headed the patent and licensing group for many years. Thus, the German IP practice is significantly expanding the consulting portfolio, especially in the areas of patents, trade secrets and employee inventions. In the BCLP, Geier advises in particular on matters relating to inventions, innovations, and knowledge, including legal protection and enforcement. Drafting of intellectual property licensing contracts as well as in the context of development and research projects, dealing with employee inventions and transactional intellectual property consulting will also be among his main areas of activity.

Dominik Weiß, Partner in the Hamburg office and Head of Intellectual Property Practice in Germany, is pleased to add: “At Michael Geier, we have acquired a colleague with many years of experience and extensive expertise in all patent law issues, and therefore we can significantly expand the scope of our advisory services in Germany. In his new position, Michael Geier will work closely with our renowned patent practice in the USA. We are very pleased that we will be able to provide our clients with highly competent support in this important area in the future.”
