After Apple temporarily moved forward with its own button for its voice assistant Siri, Microsoft now wants to follow suit. This technology belongs to the developer of ChatGPT OpenAI.

KArtificial intelligence is bringing the biggest change to the familiar keyboard of Windows PCs in decades. Microsoft introduced its own button for its AI assistant Copilot on Thursday. It is scheduled to be showcased next week at the CES technology trade show in Las Vegas on new devices from various manufacturers. Models with the co-pilot button are expected to be available for purchase from the end of February.

Microsoft chief Yousef Mahdi wrote in a blog post that 2024 should be “the year of the AI-driven personal computer.” To achieve this, AI-based functions will be more seamlessly integrated into the Windows operating system. The Copilot button replaces the previous menu button next to the “Alt” button on the right side of the keyboard. One press activates the co-pilot. This is based on technology from developer OpenAI, which is behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT.

This means that Windows 11's built-in Assistant can also answer questions or complete tasks. Rival Apple temporarily had its own button for the Siri voice assistant in its Macbook laptops. It was housed in the touchscreen bar, which has since been scrapped and which replaced the classic function keys for a few years.
