The MG3 was introduced with new “Hybrid+” technology

MG presents the new MG3 Hybrid+. Hybrid+ Drive technology celebrates its debut in the new 4,113 mm long small car, and is the first non-plug-in conventional hybrid system to be integrated into a model of the brand. The Hybrid+ system includes: engine, transmission, battery, electric motor and generator.

With a combined power of 143 kW (194 hp), the MG3 achieves consumption values of 4.4 l/100 km and 100 g/km CO2. This is backed by a 1.83 kWh battery, which MG says allows for “extensive range” in all-electric mode. The MG3 has a 75 kW (102 hp) 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor plus a separate generator. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in eight seconds, and can reach a top speed of 170 km/h.

The front-wheel drive MG3 Hybrid+ can be driven in several driving modes, each of which is automatically selected by the Hybrid+ system:

  • EV: Pure electric operation as long as charging allows.
  • Serial: The engine drives the generator which in turn powers the electric motor during travel.
  • Serial and charging: Serial mode plus battery recharging.
  • Drive Charge: The engine powers the wheels and at the same time charges the battery via the alternator.
  • In parallel: a motor and an electric motor drive the wheels.

According to the information, the electric motor can handle a large portion of the trips – even under high loads – where the gasoline engine provides smooth support or takes over at higher speeds. The engine is coupled to a three-speed automatic transmission, which should provide an efficient and enjoyable driving experience.

Drivers can choose between three driving modes in the MG3: Eco, Standard, and Sport. Eco mode is designed for optimal fuel efficiency and provides smoother throttle response, while Standard mode delivers a combination of economy and performance. Sport mode ensures a more responsive setting.

“With its compact dimensions and sleek design, the MG3 delivers a dynamic driving experience and a high level of driving comfort,” says MG. “It benefits from the use of new ultra-rigid chassis components, while the suspension elements are designed to reduce weight and improve stability to enable sporty handling and a comfortable ride.” .

The MG3 will be available to order in three trim levels for European customers: Standard, Comfort and Luxury. The manufacturer cites the dual-screen cockpit as a highlight inside: the driver has a 7-inch digital instrument display and a 10.25-inch central infotainment system. The button bar in the middle allows you to launch frequently used functions. Navigation is standard, as is smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. “MG iSMART offers MG3 customers a level of connectivity that is usually only expected in higher vehicle classes,” she says.

According to MG, other standard equipment includes air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, four USB ports as well as a rear camera and parking sensors. Higher trim levels add leather seating, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a 360-degree camera system.

With MG Pilot, the MG3 benefits from modern driver assistance systems. These features include lane departure warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and traffic jam assist.

The MG3 Hybrid+ model offers a boot volume of 293 litres. Customers are offered a standard 7-year factory warranty with a maximum range of 150,000 km. Pricing has not yet been set, but reports suggest that the manufacturer may ask for less than €25,000.
