Deutsche Bahn and Vodafone want to fill in the remaining gaps in Vodafone’s mobile network on railways across Germany. The now-agreed infrastructure partnership states that the Düsseldorf-based Digitization Group will particularly provide high-frequency routes with gapless, high-bandwidth LTE mobile network by 2025. Above all, it benefits train passengers who use Vodafone network. Telekom had already made a similar announcement last year.

Specifically, the joint expansion plan stipulates that Vodafone will provide 7,800 km of major traffic routes on which both ICE and IC will operate with a bandwidth of at least 225 Mbps in its LTE network by mid-2025. Vodafone must ensure A minimum bandwidth of 125 Mbps on 13,800 km of heavy passenger routes with more than 2,000 passengers per day.

In addition, Vodafone will be the first mobile communications provider to activate a 5G+ network on ICE routes in Germany by 2025. Train passengers should then benefit not only from higher bandwidth but also from short response times for the first time. (AWM)
