A light, dynamic core is the foundation of every cross-country ski race. Until now, honeycomb cores have been mainly used. Atomic will launch its top-of-the-line ski models with the self-developed Innowave core from next season. We were able to catch a glimpse of it beforehand at the headquarters in Altenmarkt.
What is the essence of Innowave and what advantages does it have?
Innowave is a newly developed kernel by Atomic that is powerful and lightweight at the same time. The corrugated layers are manufactured at the headquarters in Altenmarkt from lightweight paper reinforced with resin, creating a very special torsional rigidity – for a dynamic reaction when the force put into them is released. Atomic Promises: “More bounce, more power!” The new Innowave core is strong, light and efficient: it ensures dynamic propulsion with every kick – and extra power with every step. Through in-house development and production.
Development and production
It took over 100 prototypes and 5 years of development by the Atomic R&D team to perfect the essence of Innowave. The team spends more than 80 days a year testing snow and improving new products and materials. By using paper and producing the Innowave core with our custom-made machine in Altenmarkt, the Innowave core also has a carbon footprint that is approximately 38 percent lower than Atomic's previous racing cores. This is based on an analysis of the full life cycle from raw materials to end of life, resulting in a reduction of eight to twelve percent for the Redster S9 Carbon (length 192 cm) (exact figures expected at the end of March). As with all atomic developments, the new Redster S9 Carbon with Innowave core has already been tested and validated by athletes. Simen Hegstad Krüger was already able to win the traditional 50 km World Cup race in Holmenkollen.

What's new in the Redster S9 Carbon?
Atomic's top model in the ski segment, the Redster S9 Carbon, is equipped with the new Innowave core. “The Innowave core is designed for strength, lightness and efficiency,” says Atomic. “The unique wave structure and special material composition ensure dynamic bounce and optimal power transfer with every push.” The Redster S9 Carbon also has a new equal side cut (42 | 43 | 43), which Improves ski steering and control. Optimal ski tip ensures balance and flow while racing. “Shorter, flatter and lighter, it reduces swing weight for a smooth, playful motion.”
