The federal government wants to make Germany a leader in autonomous driving. Starting next year, self-driving cars should be able to take part in road traffic – but not everywhere.

Then autonomous vehicles of what is known as the fourth level are used on specific roads specified for regular operation on public roads. To this end, the Bundestag has now passed a law designed to make Germany a leader in autonomous driving. The Federal Council must give its approval in advance.
For shuttle communication
With fully automated level 4 driving, a computer can fully control the vehicle for some applications without a human driver observing it.
In emergency situations, the system must also park the vehicle at the side of the road. According to the Ministry of Transportation, this technology can be used for shuttle communication or goods transportation.
