In the fall of 2023, a new youth meeting center will open in the port of Linz: the “last” combines games, culture and action sports. The project was initiated by Gerd and Josef Scharmer.

Linz. Brothers Gerd and Josef Scharmer start a new business in the port area of ​​Linz. In the fall of 2023, the two managing directors of the family business Schachermayer / Rechberger will open a new meeting place for youth and youth at Lastenstrasse 42. A name has already been found: “last by Schachermayer”.

Facility for esports, gaming and action sports

“Conversion work is in full swing,” Winnie Ransmayer, Project Manager for The Last, said on the phone. The 4,000-square-meter building has served as the company’s headquarters for a long time. Starting in the fall, youngsters from 14 years old can get creative and work out on three floors. In addition to esports and games, the ‘hello yellow bowl’ sports facility aims to promote youth in the city. “In urban areas, opportunities to play sports are limited, and it is one of my personal interests to create new opportunities, especially for young people,” says Gerd Schermeyer.

beyond the boundaries of the scene

A skating bowl and BMX bowl will be built in the basement, while rooms on the other floors invite you to exchange ideas or hold events. Gamers will also get their money’s worth: with 32 PCs and 20 consoles, the gaming zone will definitely not be boring. A comic shop makes fans’ hearts beat faster and board games can also be borrowed on site. “During the planning phase, we were in close contact with the regional players—skaters, gamers, artists, musicians—because it was important for us to know the needs of the different scenes,” Ranzier explains. More details will be announced by June at the latest.
