I am looking for a new monitor that will replace the Lenovo P27h-10 which I would like to use primarily as a desktop monitor for daily office work in the home office and for programming. At the same time, I should occasionally be able to get my PS5 connected via HDMI to play some FIFA on screen.
I really liked the P27h-10, but I’ve been leaving short videos now and then since I’ve been using the PS5 on it. I don’t know if it’s just because of the 60Hz device or somewhere else.
Anyway, the device requires USB-C, so I can plug laptops right on top of it and charge and use it with the display.
I often swing between an ultra-wide monitor and a regular 27″ monitor (like the P27h-10). If it’s too wide, it should definitely support image-by-image, so I can use one device via USB-C and another via can drive and see HDMI/DP on the screen at the same time.
In terms of gaming, 120Hz would also be great on an HDMI port and so far the gist of my research has been that it’s hard to find a gaming monitor (for 120z) that supports both USB-C and PBP (if it’s super wide).
In terms of resolution, I tend to go for WQHD or UWQHD with a very wide screen. Some time ago I had a 4K monitor at home for testing, here the fonts etc. were too small for you to work productively with it. Especially when the programming was down massively. So I think (U)WQHD is the best option if there’s nothing new here about 4K.
1. How much money do you want to spend?
which – which. 700 EUR
2. What are the main requirements that you put on the screen?
- Which Screen Size (inch) should the screen contain? Either a regular size of 27″ or an extra wide of about 34″
- What Precision Should this have? WQHD (2560×1440) or UWQHD (3440×1440) Ultra Wide Resolution.
A few years ago I looked at a 4K screen, the font on my Mac was very small (especially when programming, etc.), so I’m ashamed of 4K. If that changes in the meantime, that’s fine too. - Which refresh rate (Hz) Do you want? 60/120/144/240 Hz etc? 120
- What panel technology (IPS, VA, TN…) should the monitor use? I’m not sure
- Should the monitor support G-Sync or FreeSync? If so, which one? number
- What connections are required? (Display port, HDMI, DVI etc.) USB-C included. Charging function, HDMI, DP
3. Do you need a proprietary and/or professional software monitor? (eg photo editing) If yes, please name the programs and special requirements.
Mainly for daily office work in home office and for programming applications etc.
At the same time, I like to connect my PS5 via HDMI every now and then and play FIFA through it.
Games are also limited to FIFA via PS5. Perhaps one or the other smaller game across the Mac (like Soccer Manager).
Most importantly, the monitor can handle both Windows and Mac (both Intel and M1) well.
4. Do you use other additional monitors? What model, resolution, hz, gsync/freesync and which ports do they have? (Please with a link to the manufacturer or compare prices!)
not now. If it wasn’t an ultra-wide screen, I’d probably connect another 27″ to the first in the future, but that’s a dream for the future.
5. Which graphics card should the monitor be on? Model and designation (please link to manufacturer or compare prices!):
Mainly on MacBook Pro (M1 and earlier with Intel processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1 GB) And Business laptop: Lenovo ThinPad T480S without a suitable graphics card And Only PS5.
6. Do you have any special wishes regarding the monitor? (axis function, wall mount, color, manufacturer, lighting, etc.)
If it was 27 inches, pivoting would be nice, but not necessary.
If it becomes ultra-wide, then PBP (Picture-by-Picture) should be supported.
And certainly USB-C for charging and using laptops at the same time.
7. When do you want to buy the monitor? ASAP or can you wait a few weeks/months?
immediately
