Microsoft isWe've announced the end of support for Windows Mixed Reality and more detailed information.

Microsoft states:

Windows Mixed RealityIt is no longer recommended. It is planned to be removed in a future version of Windows. This includes deprecationMixed reality portal applicationWindows Mixed Reality for SteamVRThe Steam VR beta.

Support for Windows Mixed Reality will end on November 1, 2026 (local time) for consumer versions of Windows, and on November 1, 2027 (local time) for commercial versions of Windows. When support ends, you will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, and online technical content updates. Additionally, after support ends, you will no longer be able to download Windows Mixed Reality software from the Mixed Reality Portal, Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR, or Steam VR Beta app.

If you're using Windows Mixed Reality, it will continue to work with Steam until you upgrade to a version of Windows that doesn't include Windows Mixed Reality features.

Please note that the above does not affect HoloLens. We (Microsoft) remain committed to HoloLens and our enterprise customers.

In December 2023, Microsoft announced that it would remove Windows Mixed Reality (Windows MR) from Windows in the future, but no timing or details have been announced.

This time MicrosoftDeprecated features page for the Windows clientUpdated, Windows Mixed Reality announced that support for Windows for consumer (Home and Pro) will end on November 1, 2026, and support for Windows for enterprise will end on November 1, 2027.

Even if support ends, you can continue to use it as long as you don't upgrade to a version of Windows that removes Windows Mixed Reality functionality. There's no mention of what the deleted version of Windows will be (i.e. Windows 11 26H2 or Windows 12 26H2).

Please note that support for HoloLens will not end and will continue.
