Hope for a fuel cell car still exists among many German drivers. Even if the technology does not play a role in cars now or in the foreseeable future, 35% of car owners will choose a hydrogen car if combustion engines are no longer available. this Result of a survey conducted by Deutsche Automobil-Treuhand (DAT). Only 19% could prepare for a battery electric car, and another 19% would choose a hybrid car. The plug-in hybrid will be an option for 27 percent.

There are currently only two cars equipped with fuel cell technology, the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, which are only sold in homeopathic doses. BMW has also announced a hydrogen version of the iX5 that has been developed in collaboration with Toyota for some time, but it will likely never make it beyond a small series. Most other manufacturers have discontinued the technology for cars, but it could play a smaller role in trucks and vans in the future. In addition, there is a shortage of green hydrogen to power cars. Here, too, there are few signs that this may change radically in the medium future.
