The AIDS Healthcare Foundation calls on WHO to: Preserve HIV biotechnology

the AIDS Healthcare Foundation AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) calls on the World Health Organization (WHO) to require manufacturers of CD4 critical point-of-care (POC) devices, including Abbott Laboratories and Becton Dickinson (BD), to continue production of HIV testing equipment and all necessary supplies . Which ensures good workflow.

“AHF's country teams, working in 46 countries, are seeing first-hand the consequences of Abbott and BD's decisions, particularly in Africa and Asia. POC CD4 devices are rare if countries have them at all, as are the required reagent cartridges that provide results within 20 Minutes. “Companies have also stopped service on existing equipment, abandoning patients and leaving medical staff empty-handed,” said Dr. Adele Schwarz Benzaken, AHF's senior global medical director. “We are calling on the World Health Organization to speak out and we are calling on the manufacturers of testing devices CD4 needs to immediately begin production of devices and reagents and support existing devices on the ground because many of them are failing around the world.”
