Swiss Post buys electronic patient records providers from Axsana

Swiss Post buys electronic patient records providers from Axsana

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of September 2022. According to a statement released on Tuesday, Swiss Post will then want to acquire a 75 percent stake in Axsana. According to the statement, the parties agreed not to disclose the details of the ongoing talks and the planned majority stake.

Swiss Post already supports five other EPD service providers as a technology partner. With the now planned acquisition of Axsana, the company intends to continue playing a major role in this field in the future.

The non-profit operating company currently employs 15 people. According to the information, Axsana previously belonged to 50% of the so-called support organizations (Cantosana), in which twelve German-speaking Swiss cantons participate, and to the XAD Support Association, under which the associations of service providers joined forces.

According to the announcement, Axsana has so far offered EPD under the “Xsana” brand in 14 cantons and relied on Swisscom’s EPD technology infrastructure services. “Swisscom is exiting the electronic patient file and supporting the transition to the solution that is now available,” says Urs Lehner, Member of the Executive Board of the Swisscom Group. According to the information, the telecom group wants to focus more on hospital networks, health insurance companies and the outpatient sector in the future.

An electronic patient record (EPD) is a digital collection of important information about a person’s health. According to the information, it is used, for example, to store a hospital discharge report or a Spitex care report.
