Starfield PC System Requirements – Do I need to buy a new gaming PC now?

Bethesda and Microsoft have announced the system requirements for Starfield. And it turned out to be quite a challenge. MeinMMO introduces you to the requirements and explains what you need to know.

Starfield system requirements are demanding. At least when compared to Diablo 4’s system requirements.

MeinMMO introduces you to the system requirements for Starfield and explains what you should know about it. Note, however, that dates can change back in advance of release.

Starfield: System Requirements for PC

What do you have to consider? Starfield system requirements may change again over the next few months. It is not uncommon for developers to modify submitted requirements again before release.

Minimum requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor (CPU): Intel Core i7-6800K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
  • Graphics card (GPU): Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700
  • Random Access Memory (RAM): 16 gigabytes
  • storage space: 125 GB SSD
  • DirectX version: 12

Recommended requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
  • Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600x
  • Graphics card (GPU): Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • Random Access Memory (RAM): 16 gigabytes
  • storage space: 125 GB SSD
  • DirectX version: 12

What does the data mean? The “minimum requirements” means that you can play the game at all. Often that means playing in 720p (HD) at 30fps and low settings. So you shouldn’t expect much.

The Recommended Requirements mean you can actually play Starfield in high detail, though we don’t know the resolution at this time. More information will follow in the coming months.

Starfield System Requirements Details: What Hardware Do I Need?

If you ever want to play Starfield, you need at least an Intel Core i7-6800K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600x and an Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700. So you really need a mid-range computer if you want to get started. Starfield launch.

The recommended settings with the RTX 2080 and RX 6800 XT cause confusion. Because the RX 6800 XT is much faster than the now outdated RTX 2080. Another game on Steam already requires an RTX 2080 or RX 6800 XT for “Recommended Settings”.

Details are currently missing: So the Recommended Requirements can also apply to 4K with activated ray tracing. We think this is unlikely, but ray tracing is likely the reason why the weaker RTX 2080 is supposed to compete with the much faster RX 6800 XT in terms of requirements. Nvidia graphics cards often offer better overall performance when ray tracing is activated.

So we have to be patient here until Bethesda or Microsoft provide detailed information. We’ll keep you updated on MeinMMO if Bethesda provides new information.

Xbox as an alternative: If you’re thinking of buying an Xbox version of Starfield, check out the following tips on MeinMMO. In the following article, we explain the most important differences between the large and small model:
