Heatsink Samsung 990 Pro: The gaming SSD released with the integrated heatsink

With the SSD 990 PRO Heatsink, Samsung has released a gaming SSD with an integrated cooling solution. High-speed memory is especially interesting for console gamers who want to expand their PlayStation 5 at home with fast NVMe space.

Cool m.2 SSD up to 2TB

Even the uncooled Samsung SSD 990 Pro belongs to the higher storage class with its PCIe 4.0 interface and sequential read and write speeds of up to 7450MB/s and 6900MB/s respectively. This means that the memory is not only suitable for quick access to data on a PC, but also for expanding the PlayStation 5’s SSD memory. However, the traditional 990 Pro does not come with a heatsink, which is highly recommended for the console’s SSD expansion slot.

The now-released gaming SSD variant by Samsung expands the portfolio with a heatsink-equipped SSD, without limiting core storage performance. According to Samsung, the heat sink for the SSD is only 8.2mm high and therefore fits into the dedicated slot on the Sony console. The 990 PRO heatsink is available in 1TB and 2TB versions, more than triple the total storage space of the PlayStation 5. The heatsink should also bring advantages on PC – according to Samsung, the temperature of memory cells drops by up to 16°C During operation at best.

Samsung SSD with RGB lighting for gaming PCs

According to the manufacturer, the 990 PRO Heatsink is also equipped with RGB lighting. This can be controlled via Samsung’s Magician 7.2 software. In addition, players can coordinate lighting with other RGB controllers.

Samsung’s new gaming SSDs cost €129.90 (1TB) and €214.90 (2TB) and are available now.
