Snapchat wants to be a virtual teenage dresser

The video app continues its augmented reality attack in favor of brands and e-commerce.

Put a watch on your wrist, and see what color the dress suits you, put on your arm various models of handbags … through the screen of your smartphone. These are some of the shopping innovations announced Thursday evening by Snapchat at its annual conference. The Video & Photos app has surpassed 500 million monthly users, 40% of whom live outside the US and Europe.

It wants, like many other social networks, to accelerate the e-commerce sector but by betting on its defining feature: augmented reality. “Using a smartphone camera supports all of our innovations.”Explains Grégoire Gimaret, Director of Product Marketing for Europe.

Snapchat actually allowed you to actually try makeup or shoes before ordering. The app’s technology is now able to recognize arm and body movements, and respond to voice commands to take pictures or try another product
