A new version of the open source RPCS3 emulator has been released recently. All but most PS3 games cannot actually be played.
Anyone who wants to access the RPCS3 emulator website must first agree that they will be using an original PS3 game and will not order pirated copies. This appears to be an attempt (see image below right) to constantly avoid legal problems. Who wants to voluntarily follow the example of Pizza Emulator, Citra or Yuzu?
RPCS3 has no change log
The developers of RPCS3 released version 0.0.31 of their popular PS3 emulator this week. As usual, there is no official changelog. Also on it Private blog Little has happened in recent years. But this shouldn't confuse you, a lot happened behind the scenes.
You shouldn't be confused by the version number, because most PS3 games can already be played on PC. The emulator runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD. Even the rarely used Pop OS! The emulator is offered open source in its app store.
RPCS3 was originally created by DH and Hykem in 2011 developed, with Nekotekina and kd-11 now taking a leading role on the team with a total of over 20 active contributors. RPCS3 now plays approximately 70% of the PS3 library without any issues. The remaining 30% have the most games running. But there are serious problems with this. Less than 3% don't even work with the emulator.
What happened since the last update?
The fighting game .hack//Versus can now be played online with friends thanks to RPCS3 and RPCN 1.1. Since there is no change log, there is no accurate documentation of all changes. But the team has made a total of 254 changes since the last release. Developers have On your X account (formerly Twitter) has made some announcements about important improvements.
New: Support for midi controllers and drums
You can now navigate through the main GUI window using the console. This is useful if you're using a laptop like the Steam Deck. This allows navigation to be significantly faster and easier. Meanwhile, support for midi drums, such as those used in the PS3 game Rock Band 3, has also been introduced.
Better online jobs
In addition, RPCS3's online functionality has been significantly improved in recent months. You can now play more games against each other online than before. The emulator now also supports adding friends to your RPCN account and inviting them to games. The functionality is comparable to PSN because it runs on a real PS3.
