criticism

The monthly series of Star Wars has already reached 86 issues. This time Eye of the Storm and Vader Hunt Part Two is included in Vol. Graphically, the second story is clearly better than the first. The first in particular feels a bit more surreal due to the slightly more open areas and simpler graphics, even if of course that supports the story to a certain extent. Vader’s part is more classic, that is, it is made of plastic, and the characters come out better. Well, with helmeted characters, of course, facial features are always a thing…

In terms of story, the second part of “Eye…” marks the conclusion of the first phase of the High Republic. Here Marchionne Ro reveals himself to be the true leader of Nihil, even if I personally would have preferred to leave the Jedi in the dark. His cunning is on display again, as he not only brings new monsters on board, quite literally regardless of losses, but he also has other secret weapons up his sleeve, which he uses promptly and effectively. Still, the bad guys clearly won the first stage, which is a very nice change.

But the story can also convince in other ways, as it offers more insight into Ros’ inner life and the aforementioned cliffhanger that definitely leaves you wanting more. The second part, Vader’s Story, is also worth watching, even if the focus here is more on action. So Vader ruthlessly uses his resources to undermine a base and isn’t shy about “using” Oshii. The dynamic between the two is still intriguing, and there’s even a brief moment of sympathy for Vader taking out a brutal group of stormtroopers. But the truth is different here…

However, the mercenary forces were still a bit pale and had not been able to convince so far. Just the look of Valance creates some nice bridges here. Let’s hope the pesky figures in high places aren’t just some etched no-names, but really one aha effect or another going on here.
