Review: Star Trek: Prodigy I Episode 20

The season finale for “Prodigy” really pulls out all the stops. We’re seeing if the kids can save Starfleet. Warning: SPOILERS!

pure emotions

In fact, we can keep the review short, because rarely has there been an episode as perfect as this one. There is a lot here! And that starts with all the emotional scenes.

On the one hand, there’s a Holo-Janeway farewell, which we as viewers can guess one way or another. Who does not shed a tear? But Protostar’s destruction is also moving. Yes, they really dared and destroyed the most important plot device of the series!

And by this, of course, all my expectations were reduced to absurdity. Because I initially thought the crew would still be sailing through space with the Protostar in the future. But far from it. At this point, I’d like to pay my respects to the authors: I really didn’t expect you to go this route. Well, there’s a new Protostar-class ship at last, but still…

Farewell and a new beginning

Admiral Janeway’s speech to the Starfleet Committee was also emotional. Of course, this speech is not stingy with pathos either. But it’s still miles better than any letter Burnham ever burned.

Our friends join Starfleet as proper NCOs and give the series a new dynamic in Season 2. Also new is Zero’s armor, which is being upgraded.

Gwen and Dale also get their emotional goodbyes. Gwen becomes an ambassador for Sollum. And this is also a completely suitable path for them. It may also bring a new component. Let’s hope she really shows up again in Season 2. We’ll see where the trip goes for the kids.

Lots of work again

But even in the second part of the season finale, the action is not neglected. The first task is to end the devastating fighting between Starfleet ships. When all seems lost, there is only one last resort: Protostar must be destroyed. But can this really stop the “virus”?

Because in fact it has already infected other systems. So it’s a big weakness if he needs a proper protostar for demolition work. but good…

Of course, one could also argue why Friends would suddenly fall to Earth. Was the battle really on the ground? If so, the Allies were there quickly.

And then, of course, there’s the shuttlecock…again. But these are little things that you can somehow overlook because of the overall strong episode.

Exciting constellation for season 2

So we’re moving into season two with a really interesting constellation. The children are now NCOs and now have the original as their mentor in Admiral Janeway. But she also has a difficult task ahead of her. Because Chakotay might still be stuck in the future and have to be picked from there. For this, too, the course is set accordingly in “Supernova, Part 2”.

By the way, it is less pronounced in German. Because it says that the message will come with a time delay, so “52 years ago, so to speak.”. In English you are there “52 years from the future” However, it is quite obvious.
