Power Express – Discussion on the long-term use of carbon dioxide capture and storage technology at Mittel

The consortium implementing the CCS4CEE project has just released a series of documents titled Publication of the CCS Action Plan for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), which will conclude the next phase of the project. The documents aim to support the successful deployment of CSS across the region by presenting for the first time a strategic plan with a set of CCS-related actions.

The publication contains three documents: Summary of National Action Plans for the Country Cooperation Strategy for ten countries (listed below), released in June; The Action plan for regional cooperation And the Links between the CEE Action Plan and initiatives at the European level.

Our analysis confirms that the successful deployment of CCS in the Central and Eastern European region is of particular importance, particularly the exchange of knowledge, research experience and infrastructure, especially storage sites in countries with limited CO storage potential, said Kamil Laskowski of WiseEuropa.

The main actors of the CCS in partner countries were consulted on the specific solutions provided in the document as well as in the national action plans. Without consideration of stakeholders’ perspectives on CCS, Michel Hrobb of the Euroboom European Policy Institute explained, it would not be possible to develop concrete and actionable action plans, supporting more accurate and realistic policy recommendations and timelines for publication.

The final stage of the project

The highlights of the current project phase were the stakeholder events, the publication of the CCS National Action Plans and the project conference in Brussels. Now it is gaining momentum and entering its final phase. We will continue our engagement with stakeholders as we try to connect more actors to CCS related platforms. We would also like to support the project developers in their efforts. This will be done through capacity building and networking activities, It was announced by Michal Wendołowski from Bellona of Europe.
