Skilled Nintendo fans lately own two Interesting patents Which was discovered by the company in March and November last year. Information regarding said patents has become publicly available since yesterday and reveals similarities to functions or technologies from other manufacturers already known to us – specifically Xbox Quick Resume functionality and Nvidia’s DLSS technology.
From one game to another
first patent Describes a functionality for game consoles that can be used to switch between different programs without having to boot. If Program A is converted to Program B during active use, Program A will be paused. If you want to go back again, Program A will continue from where it was interrupted.
The patent specification also talks about a game scene being rendered as an image before the paused program is reactivated. This image should not be displayed if you are on the title screen only in the paused program. In its main features, this concept is similar to Quick Resume – Funktion From Xbox Series X | S.
Enhanced appearance thanks to advanced technology
second patent Describes a technique by which images can be transformed so that they can be viewed at a higher resolution. A trained neural network is used for this, which is fed the context of individual pixels in order to create the optimized image. In this way, different image sizes can be displayed at a higher resolution, such as 480p to 1080p, 720p to 1080p, or 1080p to 4K.
The patent refers to the use of Nvidia Tensor Cores or similar hardware to implement the concept. As mentioned at the beginning, Nintendo’s operation is based on current technology, more precisely on Deep learning for super sampling (DLSS) from Nvidia.
It remains to be seen if and when we will see the concepts listed here on Nintendo consoles. As always, patents do not necessarily refer to future products or functionality.
