Jason Sudeikis Reveals Ted Lasso Was Inspired By Donald Trump’s Politics – Deadline

Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso Award-winning creation was inspired in part by Donald Trump’s arrival on the political scene.

The representative told the UK guardian Newspaper In 2015, he was considering revisiting a character he had previously created for a comedy skit. His lasso was originally more “aggressive” but the politics of the time convinced Sudeikis to take him in a warmer direction.

Sudeikis said the guardian:

“I’m not terribly active on the internet and it affected me. Then you have Donald Trump coming down the elevator. I was like, ‘Okay, that’s silly,’ and then what opened it up in people… I hated how people wouldn’t listen to each other. Things became bi- And I don’t think that’s the way the world works.”

The result was Lasso’s warm, irreverent character – a clueless coach recruited to take charge of Richard ACF’s fictional England soccer team – that captured imaginations on both sides of the Atlantic.

And as the show prepares to exit after three seasons, the lasso’s “Believe it” mantra has spread all the way to the White House.

Sudeikis said Watchman From his recent visit to Joe Biden in the Oval Office, to discuss mental health strategies, where “Believe” was hung above the door.
