Discord originally started as a voice chat app for gamers, but has gained immense popularity due to its convenience, reaching 150 million active users as of 2021. In 2022Forum channelIt has been widely used for purposes other than gaming, such as appearance, and it is not uncommon for development community interactions to complete within Discord.

The exchanged text in Discord cannot be searched from the outside, but if Discord is used as a forum in the programming community, this is a problem that even if there is a useful exchange, it will end without being known to the outside. The overflow answer was created to solve such problems.

I’ll try Answer Overflow right away. First, I set up a new server for testing.

Select the server you want to add in the Add to server: option at the bottom and click Yes.

Review the permissions granted and click Authorize.

It’s okay if “Success!” is displayed.

Configuration is done using slash commands. First, enter “/channel-settings” and hit enter.

Your publishing settings on Google can be found under Indexing Settings. Click the OK button.

Click Enable Indexing.

If the button changes color, you’re done.

Topics created in the channel you set up will now appear in Google Search. I will create a topic soon. Click the Topic button at the top right and click Create Thread.

Type a name for the topic, the first message, and press Enter to create the topic. You should be able to google this… but it doesn’t show up in search results right after it’s posted. At the time of writing, Answer Overflow identifies each thread on a page once every 24 hours. From there, Google will take some time to crawl the “Override Answer” pages.

Let’s take a look at some examples on Google. The figure below shows an unofficial server dealing with .NET and C# related topics, and you can see a thread titled “It looks like I have an infinite loop, but I can’t fix it to work”.

When I searched on Google, I got hits as shown below.

The inner page looks like this. Posted messages in threads can be viewed at a glance.

With this in mind, you should be able to search like this after a while.

Overflow’s answer is a channel that can only create threadsForum channel“, but it is possible that it works on public channels. Since it has an “auto-threading function” for use on public channels, I will try to use it. Click “tools-channel help” in the “/channel-settings” command.

Click “Enable Auto Threading”. Settings are now complete.

When the auto-threading function is enabled, all messages sent to the channel will be automatically threaded. It’s not suitable for small talk, but it seems to make it easier to discuss every situation.
