Intel just announced its latest AI upscaling technology, XeSS 1.3, and there's already a preliminary comparison with Nvidia's brand-new DLSS 3.7 and AMD's somewhat older FSR 2.2 on YouTube, which is from the benchmark channel S2Games seat Implemented on Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070. Intel XeSS 1.3 makes a big leap.
XeSS is catching up with DLSS and surpassing FSR
As a nearly two-minute comparison video directly compares DLSS 3.7, FSR 2.2, and
DLSS 3.7 vs. FSR 2.2 vs. XeSS 1.3
Our tester certifies that Intel's XeSS 1.3, which at first glance delivers much better results than Intel's, and AMD's FSR 2.2 can't keep up with the technologies from Intel and Nvidia when it comes to image quality. XeSS 1.3 can lag behind competitors, especially when it comes to image resolution.
When using FSR 2.2, there are noticeable ghosting when Alloy is turned on, and similar marks are left when looking at flying insects in video. Additionally, water looks very smooth with Nvidia DLSS 3.7 and Intel XeSS 1.3, but creates annoying shimmering effects with AMD FSR 2.2. In terms of image quality, AMD still needs to improve significantly to keep up with Nvidia and Intel. It remains to be seen whether the quality improvements in FSR 3.1 are enough.
On the other hand, Intel has clearly done a good job and gamers can actually experience XeSS 1.3 in all games that support XeSS 1.2 by simply replacing the corresponding dll files with “libxess”. This can already be done via the developer platform github can get it.
