In 1821 the French translation of “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley appeared. Two centuries later, humanity still dreams of raising the dead. However, the theories advanced by futurists and scientists may seem equally astonishing. In the far future, will we collect all the data that matters to us and use it to revive us? Will we ever be able to come to life with technologies that are hard to imagine?
Resurrection through digital data?
In his book “The Future of Humanity”Physicist Michio Kaku envisions a form of digital immortality through the many traces we leave, sometimes without even realizing it.
“Today, we are leaving a huge digital footprint”, he explains. “For example, once you analyze your credit card transactions, you can see which countries you’ve visited, what food you want to eat, what clothes you wear, and what schools you’ve attended. That’s why you add your blog posts, diaries, emails, clips Video, photos, etc. Using all this information, it is possible to create a 3D image that speaks and acts just like you, with quirks and memories.” He then imagines that one day we can have a file “Library of Souls” or, “Instead of reading a book about Winston Churchill, we can have a conversation with him.”
