So far, the US space agency has discovered more than 20,000 “near-Earth objects” (NEOs), but its size remains one of the eyes of experts. Asteroid 2013 YD48 is 104 meters wide.
Experts predict that on January 11, 2022, the sky will be closer to Earth.
Before the “giant” passes, NASA’s Asteroid Observatory predicts that other small asteroids 4 to 12 meters in size will be approaching our planet.
Even smaller, an asteroid colliding with Earth at very high speeds is capable of causing great damage. In 2013, an asteroid exploded in Russia’s atmosphere, destroying 7,000 buildings and causing more than 180 million R $ 180 million in damage.
Luckily all of this NEO will go close to Earth, but not close enough to cause conflict. According to data from the European Space Agency, we should only worry about the asteroid 2019 SU3, which is likely to collide with our planet in 2084. (With Sputnik Brazil agency)
