The game uses beekeeping and floriculture techniques in its gameplay to teach players the importance of beekeeping in the ecosystem.

This educational approach is not only the core of the game, but also actively promotes the protection of bees. A portion of APICO sales is donated to national and international bee charities, beekeeping and conservation of wild bees. The game is presented in the form of a nice isometric pixel. As a member of the beekeeping family, players control their character across the different islands and try to grow their own bee colonies. More than 30 different species of bees can be raised, collected and kept.

It is also about running the family business. Honey and other beekeeping products must be produced and sold. For this you have to collect craft materials and tools and complete beekeeping mini games to help the bees.

APICO can be played with up to four players and offers cross-play across all supported platforms. This allows players to visit their friends’ farms and help each other conserve bees. The game has been available for Nintendo Switch since July 8 and has already been released for PC (Steam, Epic Games, Humble Store, itch.io, GameJolt).
