All-round purchase control (office + games)

Currently, I have a Lenovo Thinkvision P27H-10 as my main monitor, and I had an old Acer 24″ next to it as a second monitor. But I’ve given Acer away now, so I don’t have the screen. I thought the best thing would be to buy a new home screen and then put the P27H upright next to it as a second screen.

I have no idea what kind of technology it currently has, so I would be very grateful for a buying advice here. I think a 27″ size is fine. I’ve also considered larger or curved, but I think this would be too big for my table and too expensive too – but I’m open to suggestions for the overall setup.

1. How much money do you want to spend?

Hard to say, depends on what the options are. 300 euros is not a problem. Maybe less than 500 euros if that’s possible. But if quality costs money, I would be willing to pay more.

2. What are the main requirements that you put on the screen?

• any Screen Size (inch) should the screen contain? … I think 27 inches – see illustrations above and below.
• What Precision Should this have? Full HD (1920×1080), WQHD (2560×1440) Ultra HD (3840×2160), or others such as b. UWQHD (3440 x 1440)? … I think 2560×1440 is what Lenovo has at the moment. The font is a bit small (it’s getting outdated…) but many windows are fine for it, which is great for programming, debugging, etc.
• any refresh rate (Hz) Do you want? 60/120/144/240 Hz etc? … No idea – advice please :-).
• What panel technology (IPS, VA, TN…) should the monitor use? … Am I open
• Should the monitor support G-Sync or FreeSync? If so, which one? … No idea – advice please :-).
• What connections are required? (Display port, HDMI, DVI, etc.) … It doesn’t matter, my graphics card has HDMI and DP. Both would be useful but not a “necessity”.

3. Do you need a proprietary and/or professional software monitor? (eg photo editing) If yes, please name the programs and special requirements.

Not right. Programming and sometimes gaming (shooter, MS Flight Sim 2020). The panel shouldn’t “smear” or lag, but I don’t notice anything with my current Lenovo device, which has an IPS panel. Picture (contrast/brightness/colors etc.) looks very good on Lenovo – much better than the old Acer TN panel. From this point of view, I would probably say that a good board would be important to me, but it should also be suitable for casual games.

4. Do you use other additional monitors? What model, resolution, hz, gsync/freesync and which ports do they have? (Please link to the manufacturer or compare prices!)

Lenovo Thinkvision P27H-10. It measures 2560 x 1440, 27 inches. There is no Gsync / Freesync. HDMI + DP. IPS panel.
You still have a valve indicator but don’t think this is appropriate.

5. Which graphics card should the monitor be on? Model and designation (please link to manufacturer or compare prices!):

NVIDIA Titan Xp right now. But it will likely be upgraded to the 3070 Ti / 3080 or something else when the prices become more acceptable. But I would definitely not buy an AMD graphics card because I need a CUDA card to work.

6. Do you have any special wishes regarding the monitor? (axis function, wall mount, color, manufacturer, lighting, etc.)

height adjustment I must. The height adjustment should also go up somewhat – Lenovo is great there, it rises about 20cm.
I’d also like a Pivot, but if it’s going to be my main monitor anyway, I can live without it.

7. When do you want to buy the monitor? ASAP or can you wait a few weeks/months?

I think in the next few weeks, but I can wait.
