At the beginning of the year, MSI introduced the MSI Claw A1M gaming laptop. With Windows 11 and powerful Intel hardware, this machine wants to run your current PC games smoothly on the go. Our colleague John Knapp I tried the portable gaming system.
Laptop with Intel Core Ultra
In Germany, the MSI Claw A1M is available in two different configurations: you can choose between Intel Core Ultra 5 135H (14 cores at 4.6 GHz each) and Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (16 cores at 4.8 GHz each) with Intel Arc Graphics. There's also 16GB of RAM and up to a terabyte of space for gaming. If you want, you can expand the storage space later using a microSD card.
The open back design is designed to prevent the MSI Claw A1M from becoming too warm in the hands, especially when playing graphics-intensive games – and the first impression seems to confirm that this actually works.
The game is played on a 7-inch (Full HD) IPS touchscreen display with a maximum frequency of 120Hz, and inputs are made via two analogue sticks and a D-pad as well as four action buttons, two bumpers, triggers and macro buttons. Gyroscope and accelerometer are also available. The sticks and action buttons are also RGB-lit.
There is a Thunderbolt 4 port that can be used to charge the 53Wh battery at up to 65W. MSI Claw A1M also supports WLAN 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. You can also connect a mouse and keyboard to the mobile device and then use it practically like a Windows 11 laptop.
