A tourbillon with a tidal chart executed by Yema is priced at 1 million yen

“Yachting Ruff” is a classic model that represents Yema. This model, created in 1968, became part of the collection in the 1970s and was developed as a French sports watch for a generation that wanted products for their hobby.

Yacht boats were built for the booming world of sailing at the time. The target audience was the generation that “enjoys hobbies.” This imposing automatic chronograph is water-resistant to 100 meters and displays regatta times in 1970s style.

After making a huge comeback over the past decade, Yema reintroduced the Yachting Ruff a few years ago with a new version. Now, they have announced a new model, the Yachting Graf Tourbillon Maleograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition, which is priced at around 1 million yen. It comes in two versions: a stainless steel case and a bronze case, and is equipped with a tourbillon.

Yema's Yachting Ruff Tourbillon Maleograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition is equipped with a tide graphic display and a tourbillon.

The Yachting Graf Tourbillon Maleograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition comes with a 5-year warranty. Production of each piece is limited to 75 pieces worldwide, and the serial number is engraved on the back of the case. The case is made of stainless steel or bronze, has a diameter of 42.5 mm, and is water-resistant to 100 meters. The hand-wound tourbillon movement has a power reserve of approximately 105 hours thanks to its large barrel, and also features a tide chart function.

According to Christopher Ball, managing director and watch designer at Yema, this model was designed as a tool watch that can withstand even the harshest conditions.

Dome-shaped sapphire crystal front glass, diving bezel with anti-reverse rotation function, ultra-high magnetic resistance up to 2000 Gauss, high shock resistance up to 5000 grams, tidal chart included. In other words, it is a tourbillon-equipped diver's watch that can be used daily.

The tide chart dates back to the end of the 19th century, so it is not a new mechanism. Relatively new watches equipped with tide charts are Heuer's Maleograph from the 1950s and Corum's Admiral's Club from the 1980s. A quartz model from Herblanc was also released.

Tide charts can display tidal levels associated with the movement of the Moon. Of course, this is not practical for people living in urban areas. If anything, it will be suitable for people who enjoy marine sports, such as sailors, beachgoers and surfers.

On the Yachting Graf Tourbillon Maleograph 75th Anniversary Limited Edition, the tide graph is placed below the 12 o'clock position on the dial. When the small hand points up it indicates high tide, and when it points down it indicates low tide. The hand rotates half a revolution on the dial every 6 hours, 12 minutes and 7.89 seconds, and one revolution equals 12 hours, 25 minutes and 15.79 seconds.

A tide chart placed at 12 o'clock. When the needle points to the blue part, it indicates high tide, and when it points to the red part, it indicates low tide.

The rotating bezel is equipped with a unidirectional rotation function with a scale, and the triangular indicator at 12 o'clock is highlighted with luminous paint. The sides of the frame are perforated, making it easy to grip.

The dial features a black sunburst finish, continuing the 1970s design codes that made the original model so successful. These include a red and blue tide chart and stick-mounted indicators made of stainless steel and coated with SuperLumiNova.

The opening at 6 o'clock on the dial allows you to enjoy the tourbillon movement. In order to maintain the elegant impression of the entire dial, Yema's Y logo is placed on the small hand of the tide chart counter.

The tourbillon is located at 6 o'clock on the dial.

The back of the case is made of sapphire crystal, allowing you to see the movement in action. As mentioned earlier, the case is made of stainless steel or bronze, with a mix of brushed and satin finishes.

Regarding the in-house tourbillon-equipped movement, the Cal.CMM.30, 'everything was designed and developed by Olivier Maury of La Chaux-de-Fonds, the adjustment mechanism is made in Switzerland, and the bridge and main plate are treated. 'It is made in a workshop,' Emma declared. “Morteau's work. It's made in a workshop.”

The adjustable Swiss-made movement has a variable inertia balance and maintains high accuracy. The daily difference is -3 to +7 seconds.

Through the sapphire crystal case back, you can see how the integrated Cal.CMM.30 works.

The Cal.CMM.30 features a large single barrel optimized to hold a power reserve of approximately 105 hours. Custom-designed by Générale Resorts, it features an off-center design to allow enough space for the gear chain and balance, and to reduce the thickness of the movement.

“The structure of the tourbillon cage bridges and the Kif’s anti-shock structure make it resistant to shocks, vibrations and accelerations of up to 5000G in all directions,” said Yema.

The curved bridge, partly see-through, is reminiscent of a rising tide. Instead of traditional embellishment, Iema sports a minimalist look and highlights contemporary design.

The micro-beaded satin finish on the baseplate and bridges was created using the latest ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) technology by a Swiss supplier specializing in decorative coatings.

The belt is made of Viton material, which is lightweight, flexible and very durable. Developed for heavy-duty use, it comes with a folding clasp made of 316L stainless steel or IP bronze.
