Mohawk Games developers will release their 4X Old World strategy game on Valve Steam in the next few days. Written by Soren Johnson, lead designer of Civilization 4, Old World aims to combine well-known 4X components with compelling stories like the Crusader Kings series.
Old World is coming to Steam soon. The strategy title entered Early Access on May 5, 2020 on the Epic Games Store and was released as a full game on July 1, 2021. On May 19, Old World will finally appear on the Valve gaming platform. Players can expect a historical strategy game in which every decision has consequences.
4X ITEMS MEET FAMILY STORIES
In the ancient world, players experience a historical story in which their empire was built over generations. There are seven kingdoms, each with four noble houses. The old world wants to reinterpret the 4X strategy genre and throw in new elements. So there are more than traditional resources known and technological progress is modified with each game.
The big factor is also the narrative component, which is compared to the series of crusader kings. In addition to expanding your own empire, you also want to manage your family. Events, promotions and weddings make your court happy or profitable relationships are rigged. Court men have different character models and can learn new traits over time.
Colleagues at IGN wrote that Old World Time and Place will stick to a smaller section in order to tell more personal stories and less abstraction, as is the case with the Civilization series. “Old World is a great 4X game that I can recommend even more than Civilization at this point,” the PC Gamer comment reads. “It feels like a real step forward for the genre, with so many innovative and clever design choices.”
