Microsoft Gaming's Matt Booty commented on Xbox's current strategy. The company seems to be happy with the release on PS5 consoles. However, there will still be Xbox exclusive versions.
What strategy will Microsoft Gaming follow in the coming years? Will there be more Xbox exclusives on PS5? Will Redmond sooner or later abandon exclusive games and establish itself as a multi-platform publisher?
These are topics that Matt Botti, head of content and studios at Microsoft Gaming, discussed in an interview diverse Wire.
Microsoft Gaming is very satisfied
Microsoft began releasing its first Xbox controller as an exclusive to other consoles this year. This feature includes Hi-Fi Rush, which is available now Closed studio Tango Gameworks Came into existence, “Pentiment”, “Sea of Thieves” And “grounded”.
According to Booty, the primary focus was on “Sea of Thieves” and its success on the once-rival Sony platform. The latest graphs have shown how well PS5 players have received the pirate adventure PlayStation Store. Rare game Dominate the PS5 rankings.
“We are very satisfied,” Botti said. In parallel with the release on the Sony console, Microsoft saw an increase in the number of players on Xbox and PC. Cross-play seems to have helped as well.
According to Booty, this success grows the franchise as a whole and allows teams to invest more in the game.
Xbox exclusive releases are still planned
Successes like those achieved with “Sea of Thieves” will likely lead to more PS5 releases. Phil Spencer, Microsoft Gaming's longtime CEO, noted More are being planned.
Booty also honked a similar horn, but didn't mention any games. Here the decision will be made on a “case by case” basis, which in turn indicates that there are no categories that have not been shortlisted.
However, Booty explained that the Xbox community can continue to anticipate which games will be released as Xbox exclusives. The question remains as to which of these games will be available on other consoles at a later time.
But what about day one releases on Xbox Game Pass? According to Booty, everything remains the same here: the “Xbox Promise” that all first-party Xbox games are included in Xbox Game Pass still applies.
Why was Tango Gameworks closed?
In the interview, Booty also talked about the closure of Tango Gameworks and other Bethesda studios.
He could not reveal the “difficult” details. However, it was stated that Microsoft is interested in the full management level of the studios and how to position the teams for future success. It doesn't matter whether they have been successful in the past.
Botti went on to point out that Microsoft has historically been open to allowing Teams to become independent when things were clearly not a good fit. For example here It's called Bob's Gameswhich also operates as an independent studio Works with Microsoft.
