ULA launches the new “Vulcan” rocket No. 2, the Space Portal website

United Launch Alliance (ULA) launched its second Vulcan rocket on October 4, 2024, Japan time. ULA announced that the second stage of the rocket carrying a dummy payload left Earth orbit as planned and was inserted into deep space.

Vulcan is a new rocket developed by ULA, with the first stage equipped with two BE-4 engines developed by Blue Origin, and the second stage Centaur, which has been improved since the 1960s and is equipped with two `RL-10' engines. Engines used with the RL-10 engine.

This mission for the second spacecraft is called “Certification-2 (Cert-2)” and is initially scheduled to carry the “Dream Chaser” spacecraft developed by Sierra Space, however, due to schedule delays, the launch was carried out using a dummy that simulates… Payload mass. According to ULA, this launch is the second of two test flights required for certification by the U.S. Space Force.

In addition, foreign media outlets such as NASASpaceFlight.com have indicated that there may have been a problem with one of the solid-fueled rocket boosters shortly after launch. More information will be provided once announced by ULA.
