Try: Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 – The all-around gaming monitor makes bending

Having now devoted ourselves extensively to technical terms, the question now remains of how the screen can function in games and all other classic screen applications.
One thing upfront: While VA panels have the advantage of a larger contrast range than standard IPS screens, this comes at the expense of color differentiation, especially in dark areas of the image. Screen content doesn’t look quite as different as it does on IPS panels, or even the OLED competition. However, this is a somewhat subjective perception, and you must decide for yourself whether this is a defect.

Apart from that, Odyssey knows how to please in many genres. Fast shooters benefit from high frame rates and short response times (assuming a powerful graphics card) and especially story games in HDR render with plenty of detail thanks to the high resolution.
All games shine with massive contrast range, and even if maximum brightness isn’t really convincing on large bright surfaces, highlights, explosions, and effects are displayed admirably.
As with all mini LED screens, blooming (blooming from small light sources into adjacent image regions) is certainly an issue, but with over 1,000 dimming zones the effect on the Neo G7 is very weak and in no way disturbs gameplay.
The powerful bend is quickly forgotten in the heat of the moment, and you actually have the feeling of being in the game rather than just sitting in front of it!

If you leave the dimming regions in Auto, the background lighting on the desktop behaves like a classic single-zone variant, so halos around menus or sharp contrasting edges aren’t an issue here either.
Despite the good color reproduction, we can only conditionally recommend the Neo G7 to content creators. Especially with images, the problem of contrast reproduction with VA panels prevents professional use, so for color-critical applications a second screen with IPS or OLED backlighting should be used.
