A YouTuber gets a graphics card. This is broken because it was not installed correctly. He explains that this mistake is made regularly.
YouTuber KrisFix is an electronics and repair technician. In his latest video he got an RTX 4090. The graphics card showed powerful artifacts and a black screen at irregular intervals.
In the video, he explains that the cause of the problems lies in the way they are installed in the computer. Because the GPU is not connected properly and “hangs”. This means that the graphics card is hanging at an angle in the system and putting a strain on the connection in the long run.
New graphics cards are very big and heavy
What is the problem? In gaming systems, graphics cards are connected to the motherboard via the PCIe connector. With small graphics cards, this is usually quite enough to stabilize the graphics card.
However, the problem is that graphics cards have gotten bigger and heavier in recent years. Because as performance increases, manufacturers are always coming up with new and advanced cooling systems to take waste heat out of the chip. This makes graphics cards absolutely beasts. Recently, a user messed up his system because he bought a huge GPU and really wanted to build it into his system. The result looks pretty awesome.
What should the player think about? When you install a graphics card, size, and above all weight, put a strain on your PCIe connection. Here it is important to also attach the GPU to the case or secure it with a bracket.
Some manufacturers already have a chip included in the scope of delivery, which is intended to protect the graphics card from bending. If the GPU is not included, you can get such a stand for less than 10 euros on Amazon, for example:

Repair is cumbersome and expensive
Can such errors be corrected? In principle, this is possible, but the way to get there is difficult. YouTuber KrisFix shows in his video that you can solve the problem by remelting the VRAM strips and soldering them to a circuit board. But for this you need the right tools and enough experience. KrisFix is indeed a professional technician, probably most of you are not.
His advice: Secure your graphics card properly and you’ll get many years out of your valuable technology. If you haven’t taken care of your device, don’t be surprised at damaged or broken components.
