The university expands its startup center in Oberschöneweide

Science and research are getting closer together. The University of Applied Sciences (HTW) is expanding its location in the technology and start-up center Schöneweide (TGS). Until now, the building on Ostendstrasse in Oberschöneweide has been the primary home of the university’s computer centre. But the Department of Game Design and the Institute of Foreign Languages ​​for Eight Languages ​​were already there.

More space for the HTW: Four more floors are now being extended for university use. From October, hundreds of students will be taught there in the fields of Industrial Engineering and Business Informatics. In addition, research laboratories and office workspaces will be established for these school districts. A total of 2,700 square metres, previously used by HTW for various projects, will be redesigned and transformed.

Closely intertwined: research, teaching and entrepreneurship will be better linked in TGS in the future. With an area of ​​20,000 square metres, TGS is the largest start-up center in Berlin. In addition to the HTW, there are also 35 companies headquartered there, mainly technology-oriented companies from future-oriented sectors.

They are complemented by providers of business-related services and start-ups in the technology and creative industries. And in the tower, above the roofs of the Schöneweide, a common space provides functions. All this makes Schöneweide an economic anchor in the southeast of Berlin.

A century ago, the site was established as the flagship site for AEG. There is also the Wilhelminenhof campus of the HTW, which is the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin.
