The Rock comments on the main event of WrestleMania with Roman Reigns

Dwayne Johnson spoke to the media today (January 23) after announcing that he is now a member of the TKO Board of Directors, and the proud owner of the name 'The Rock'.

Especially when combined with the massive Netflix deal that was also announced this morning, these moves raised eyebrows — or in this case, eyebrows. Most of the questions being asked revolve around the future of the WWE and TKO business. But among wrestling fans, one question has been about booking. Specifically…does having The Rock on TKO's board make it more likely that Roman Reigns will wrestle at WrestleMania this year?

While appearing on ESPN First Take, here's how the Rock responded to Stephen A.'s question. Smith about it:

“Look, you guys know – I'm a long player. I like to build. And this – something like, what is this – if me and Roman Reigns were going to main event WrestleMania, and I mean this with the utmost respect for all the previous WrestleMania events, because I grew up in This work and I love it. Maybe we can continue – with us as the main event and with this amazing group of men and women putting on these amazing performers – maybe we can have the greatest and greatest WrestleMania ever.

Co-host Molly Karim mentored her Lloyd's Inner Christmas “So you're saying there's a chance,” he replied. Johnson replied:

“There's an opportunity… I love this business. I love pro wrestling. I love WWE. But I also have this deep passion to grow it and build it. And if we're going to do something like this, I want the world to see it.”

Which is interesting, because to me that could be read as Rocky wanting more than just a few months to sell the “Mania showdown with Reigns.” He's not getting any younger, but he's built and built for a year before…

Speculation aside, it would be great to see this play out. Especially since The Rock may now be considering the decision as more than just a star, but also as a board member.
