The Girl I Loved Forgot Her Glasses in Manga review – ntower tower

Publisher Dokico recently made its debut with the light novel My Dreamy Realist, which we also feature in our Light novel review were available. Now the young publisher is back with a new work. This time it’s a manga rom-com The Girl I Love Forgot Her Glasses. Not only is this the publisher’s first manga, but it also impresses with its high quality of workmanship and love of work, which becomes increasingly noticeable as you read.

Blind love or simply misplaced your glasses?

In terms of content, the story deals with middle school student Komura, who is madly in love with his classmate, Mai. He’d been sitting next to her since the new school year, but to his dismay he couldn’t have a real conversation. However, one fateful day, Mai forgets her glasses and relies on help as she is nearly blind without glasses, which is supposed to change everything for Komura.

Komura and Mie’s story is fascinating and beckoning. Although Komura sometimes thinks immoral but not explicit thoughts, he suppresses them again and again, so that the relationship that slowly builds up is not reduced to mere sexual desires. The story sparks magic through the two clumsy characters. Mai appears particularly dreamy and clumsy, while Komura constantly laughs as he gets overwhelmed by one-on-one situations. It is also interesting that he is not intrusive and that Mai often takes the lead, albeit under pressure, because she cannot see anything and therefore cannot assess physical distance.

Koume Fujichika’s painting style is particularly distinguished by large paintings. It’s not uncommon to see a few photos on the page, mostly focused on the main characters. The advantage of the larger panels is that you don’t have to hold the strap so close to your face, which makes it feel a little less cramped than the Mie—especially if, like me, you’ve happily lost your glasses somewhere. Although effort is made to decorate the surroundings, you can tell from the work that this aspect is not the most important for a mangaka. What bothers me the most is the characters’ uncolored hair. A lot of the scenes look kind of empty. This is especially noticeable when Mai can be seen with her long, flowing hair.

As mentioned earlier in the introduction, the manga volume quality is extraordinarily high and, in my opinion, leaves no reason for complaint. The shape of the belt is slightly larger than that of traditional products, so that the belt is also comfortable to hold. The well-placed fold also makes it easy to flip the size without the risk of damaging the spine, which is an important point if you want to collect manga on a shelf. The folder has been successfully translated. No major typos or spelling errors were noted during the reading. The fact that the individual panels are large also made the text easier to place and read clearly. Smooth and thick paper completes the overall experience with different colored pages. With every purchase, there are also neat extras in the form of a sticker and card art (while supplies last). It should also be noted that the volume celebrated its release in a strategically clever way: especially for fans of the anime adaptation of the same name from GoHands studio – to be seen in Crunchyroll simulcast – They will now also be able to hold associated manga and addons in their hands at the same time.
