5G technology will accelerate digital change in Brandenburg. The latest generation of mobile communications is robust, uses less power and offers more technology and security options. Under the leadership of the consortium of the state Ministry of Economic Affairs, the new technology is being researched, developed and tested at THB in the joint project “5G-Testbed-BB”. The research society's first 5G campus network was recently officially commissioned at the THB in Brandenburg an der Havel. Additional campus networks in the joint project will soon be built or expanded in Schönhagen, Cottbus and Welzow.
Achieved within a few weeks
Brandenburg University of Technology uses the business client solution “Campusnetz Private” – with the latest 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology. For this purpose, the network operator installed eight indoor antennas on two floors in the main building and the Economic Sciences Center. Three additional small transmission stations were established outside the university campus. Among the features of the project: In addition to the campus network, the service provider created a Wi-Fi 6E network infrastructure for the first time, which operates in parallel with the 5G-SA network. In addition to specific use cases, the university will also study the interaction between the two technologies. The entire buildout of the campus network and its integration into the university's existing infrastructure was carried out in approximately ten weeks.
