The American software company Microsoft continues its billion-dollar investment program in the field of artificial intelligence. The two companies announced on Tuesday that Microsoft will invest $1.5 billion (equivalent to 1.4 billion euros) in the artificial intelligence company G42 in the United Arab Emirates. Just last week, the American company announced a $2.9 billion investment in artificial intelligence in Japan. Microsoft CEO Brad Smith gets a seat on G42's board of directors.
According to American media reports, the agreement was preceded by discussions between the Emirati and American authorities. In this context, the G42 announced that it would end its partnership with Chinese companies. Microsoft Vice President Judson Althoff explained that G42 and Microsoft have committed to the governments of the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates to support “the development and application of safe, reliable, and responsible artificial intelligence.”
G42 is based in Abu Dhabi and is part of the network of companies of Tahnoun bin Sajid, the UAE's National Security Advisor and brother of President Mohammed bin Sajid Al Nahyan. As part of the cooperation, the company will work to develop artificial intelligence services via the Microsoft Azure platform for government clients and major companies in the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa.
