Davos/Magdeburg – US chip manufacturer Intel wants to build the world's smallest chip at its future factory in Magdeburg. Its size is only 1.5 nanometers. To put it in perspective: ten million tiny superchips lined up together would be 1.5 cm long.
These are currently state-of-the-art technologies, Andre Strittmatter, head of the Semiconductor and Nanotechnology course at the University of Magdeburg, said on Friday.

Ten million nanometers equals one centimeter. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger previously spoke about the settlement in Magdeburg at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
the Factory in Magdeburg Gelsinger stressed that this will not only be the most advanced production in Germany, but “it will also be the most advanced production in the world, taking place at the Magdeburg site.”
Intel's factory in Ireland is currently producing 4nm chips. The smaller the chips, the faster calculations can be performed. Preparations to start Intel factory in Magdeburg this year. The chips should not be produced until 2027 at the earliest.
