In her Instagram Story — posted in the blue and white design scheme of her upcoming album “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” — Swift directed people to Vote.org.
“I’ve been very fortunate to see a lot of you at my shows in the US recently. I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year!”
Hundreds of thousands of people attended the Iras tour, which ended its first US stop last month in Los Angeles after 53 shows.
After Swift’s post, Vote.org began averaging 13,000 users every half hour, “a number Taylor Swift would be proud of,” Haley said. Swift’s birthday is December 13; She made 13 her lucky number and a major symbol for herself and her fans.
“Let’s just say that her reputation for being a mastermind is well-earned!” Vote.org spokesman Nick Morrow tweeted.
Swift, who has partnered with Vote.org for several years, wasn’t the only one urging Americans to register on Tuesday. National Voter Registration Day is the largest single-day voter registration effort in the United States each year, according to the nonprofit that runs it, with events across the country.
On social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the nonprofit said hundreds of thousands of people were registered to vote on Tuesday. Since 2012, this annual event has registered more than 5 million voters. On National Voter Registration Day in 2020, before that year’s presidential election, 1.5 million people registered to vote, according to the organization.
The National Voter Registration Day organization also nodded to Swift on Tuesday, to publish The “Go Vote” meme is designed to look like Swift’s “Midnights” album cover on X and tells people, “This is the era of #VoteReady.”
Vote.org said this was the largest national voter registration day since 2020, with more than 35,000 new voters registered through its website and a significant jump in the number of 18-year-olds registered to vote compared to last year.
Haley said it was a “very encouraging sign of voter enthusiasm” ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
