Supernova remnant SN 1987A where neutrinos were detected from images celebrating the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Chandra X-ray Space Telescope Sorae's portal to the universe

This is the remnant of supernova SN 1987A and its surrounding region, which was discovered in February 1987 in the constellation Pisces. SN 1987A, which occurred in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) about 168,000 light-years away, was discovered as a supernova-derived neutrino (supernova neutrino) by the Kamiokande neutrino detector operating at the former Kamioka Mine in Gifu. It is known that the prefecture has been detected.

This image is one of 25 images of astronomical objects released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of NASA's Chandra X-ray Space Telescope. X-rays are electromagnetic waves with wavelengths invisible to humans, but here Chandra's observation data are colored purple. In addition to Chandra's observation data, this image also includes optical (red, green, and blue) observation data from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) that were also created using infrared (red, green, and blue) observation data.

A bright central ring and two fainter rings above and below give SN 1987A an hourglass shape. The central ring is made of material thought to have been ejected from the exploding star tens of thousands of years before the supernova, and Chandra captured the X-rays emitted when the shock wave from the explosion hit this ring.
