Lucerne Strings Festival led by Daniel Dodds shows freshness and diversity in their latest album.
The Lucerne String Festival does not lack programming imagination. On their new album entitled “Eastbound” they present a version of Robert Schumann's “Pictures from the East” arranged for orchestra by Friedrich Herrmann in the 19th century, as well as two other arrangements, plus Franz Schreker's Scherzo for string orchestra and, as further emphasis music, Serenade, op. 22, By Antonin Dvorjak. The band, led by violinist Daniel Dodds, does not lack freshness and variety. “Portraits from the East” in particular, characterized by precision in rhythm and timing, and delicate balance with gentle tones, offers a panorama of different forms of expression. Likewise with Dvořák, whose elegiac nuances are skillfully captured, for example in the waltz. The finale, with its many dialogue passages, is also angry and well-orchestrated.
