Review: “Jean Tenner – The New Superhero 24: Moloch Superstar”

Jan Tenner's new series already has 24 episodes. We look at the episode in detail in this spoiler review.

Just 20 more episodes and you'll have caught up with the classics. And yes, we hope to see that. At least we are on the right track.

The cover shows a spider creature shooting at Jan and Tanja, who are taking cover behind a rock. So far this is looking pretty good, and since the scene is also appearing in the radio play, it's of course quite good. In the radio play itself there is also a reference to Jan Tener's first episode “Attack of the Green Spiders” in the scene. This might only mean something to fans of the first hour, but it's a good Easter egg regardless.

story

After Episode 23 of One Shot, a new story begins that, refreshingly, has nothing to do with Zoestein or the apocalypse. Here you can also make a jump from one year to the future. Humans continued to explore space and make new contacts, in this case with the planet Nerad. Quite classic and still a good approach.

Jan Junior, Lara and Tanya are also here. So you have to make room for the young goalkeeper and you have to say that the interaction between the three works well despite some bickering. So as the old guard continues to pass on to the new generation, backup is a must. It's also good that criticism is being taken seriously, and above all, Lara can continue to stay in the spotlight. This can only be welcomed at this stage.

But don't worry, you don't have to do without the classic set entirely, because it can also shine in a subplot. It's really quite tight and a bit unnecessary, but that will probably change in the next episode, because you'll start helping. What is particularly important is the ending, which is again a nod to the past. Because you called Lyons. So far they only appeared as henchmen of the Zweistein heirs, although they did not appear to be a good character. Hopefully this will also improve in the next episode.

There's also some good worldbuilding going on again, as it's pointed out that people have spaceships, not just a hyper-engine ship like the Silver Bird. We already found out in retrospect that we were in the year 4000, and given that background, anything else would be implausible. It's just a small detail, but it's good they thought of it.

Then a bit of a mystery develops for Nerad, because the titular Moloch attacks and drives everyone away. It is now important to approach carefully and collect survey data. Here too, the strangeness of the enemy and Nerad is well demonstrated. Overall, the foreign world is depicted well, even if Jan Jr. would have probably heard of the language serum a year later (which was named after popular language courses of the time, by the way). But that's complaining about the little things.
