Review: “Five Nights at Freddy’s – Crazy”

It’s been a year since the terrible events that took place at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and young Charlie is doing everything she can to put the horror behind her. But despite the distractions of starting a new college, she is still haunted by nightmares about a masked killer and four terrifying marionettes. Charlie had hoped her ordeal would finally be over, but when bodies are found near her school covered in wounds that look disturbingly familiar, she finds herself once again in the world of her father’s horrific creations. Something sinister is stalking Charlie, and when he finds her this time, he won’t let her go.

“Five nights…” phenomenon. While simply designed games were a huge hit 10 years ago, the books that followed were no exception. Although the short story volumes in particular tried to establish a connection to the franchise, they were still good. And now (end of 2023) cinema is also rising to the surface. In this regard, the inventor Scott Cawthon did everything right.

The comic is now an adaptation of the second (and same-named) novel. Technically, the graphics are a bit simpler here. The backgrounds are mostly monochromatic and simple, and the characters look sharper and more cartoonish. At least you can see enough of this simple style in the action scenes (here most likely: the slaughter scenes) and as always you get used to the style.

The story revolves around Charlie, who returns to her homeland after the Freddy’s massacre (volume 1 or part 1) and searches Freddy’s ruins. All sorts of dead bodies and of course animation appear and you can rightfully ask yourself, what is going on here? In terms of character, one or two of the clichés of the abused teenager who you don’t really believe at first and who is also a bit standoffish are used here.

However, the characters are not shown here as well as in the novel, where the heroes remain a bit pale and move along familiar paths. At least the development related to Freddy and the animation still manages to pull one or two, even if it is not surprising that the villain from the first part is still alive.

The translation isn’t entirely consistent either; While in the book there are snap locks that hold the dolls or their contents in place, here they are snap locks (although I don’t know the English original). However, although the scenes can be seen better graphically here, they appear many times more threatening in the book.

After all, the ending is pretty intense even in comedic form and gives you one or two goosebumps moments. The cliffhanger is also very effective and surprising, so you’ll definitely want to know what happens next.
