Review by Dorothy Oberlinger – Baroque Influencer

Under the banner of “Baroque influencer” Dorothy Oberlinger and her band 1700 Alessandro Scarlatti appears as an innovator of Baroque music.

An attractive logo seems essential for registration these days. Thus the new CD of Ensemble 1700 is titled “Alessandro Scarlatti – Baroque Influencer”. In order to show his musical versatility, a cross-section of his works is collected here, such as the Concerto No. 9 in A minor for alto recorder, and for 2 violins and bass continuo, in which the flautist Dorothy Oberlinger, also responsible for the overall direction, could shine, or two arias and a cantata in which Bruno relishes De Sa with a floating, weightless, crystal clear soprano and Helena Rasker with a dark, glowing alto.
