Today, April 5, Ubisoft has officially announced that the development team is working on a mobile modification of the popular tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. This is actually not an April Fools joke posted too late. The title is apparently called Rainbow Six Mobile, or simply R6M for short. The goal of the project is to bring the competitive and tactical first-person shooter closer to a larger target group around the world, according to the first blog post from Ubisoft Entertainment.
Therefore, players should be able to access Rainbow Six Siege whenever and wherever they want and enjoy the “immersive FPS experience”. Rainbow Six Mobile is developed at Ubisoft Studio Montreal. While sharing offices with developers working on the PC version, it’s an independent team made up of “experienced people from the worlds of AAA console and mobile games.”
The team has been rebuilt for Rainbow Six Mobile and focuses exclusively on this single game. Focusing on this aspect seems so important to the administrators, that no Siege fan could possibly fathom the idea that further development or maintenance of Rainbow Six Siege on PC might suffer from the newly announced mobile moniker.
Similarities and differences
Outwardly, Rainbow Six Mobile is said to be very similar to Rainbow Six Siege, but it will technically run on a completely new framework. Accordingly, the technology is designed with a focus on mobile devices in order to be able to offer, among other things, a completely new control system in the gameplay. But the user interface has also been improved and changes have been made to the visual presentation.
However, the player, cards, and game system are all the same. Also in Rainbow Six Mobile, two teams, each made up of five characters, will compete against each other in the well-known attacker-defender model.
The following maps have already been confirmed:
The following operators must be present at launch:

- Mugger
- smoking
- Valkyrie
- Mute
This list will be constantly expanded to include other known names and faces. Where “familiar faces” are relative to see. Because if we take a look at the posted images of the characters, we can definitely see a clear difference from our Rainbow Six Siege counterparts.
The developers continue to explain that they don’t want Siege fans to stop playing on PC or console. Instead, they want to “give you the opportunity to play your beloved game in easily accessible short batches, while at the same time allowing millions of new players to enjoy the R6 experience.”
After three years of internal development, now is the time to announce the game and share information with the community. Without it, it is not possible to create the best possible R6 experience for mobile devices. This is exactly why the first live tests will be conducted on iOS and Android in the coming weeks in order to gather initial feedback. Interested parties can register now via Official home page.

Ubisoft also has a first trailer for Rainbow Six Mobile up its sleeve. This shows that many of the basic gameplay mechanics of Rainbow Six Siege will also be available in the mobile version of the game. You can lean around corners, slide off buildings, discover the locations of strategic points with drones, place tools, traps and defense mechanisms, and of course strengthen or destroy a lot of walls.
Of course, it remains to be seen how well all this will work on smartphones. While the players will start with their normal setup, the normal input devices and screens will not be available to you as usual.
