WATCH: Prince Harry arrives at Westminster Abbey

The Duke of Sussex was part of the congregation as his father, King Charles III, was crowned in Westminster Abbey.

Prince Harry watched intently from his third-row seat as the crown was pinned atop the monarch’s head.

The Duke looked relieved upon his arrival at the convent and was seen chatting with his cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

It is believed that this is the first time he has seen his family since the release of his controversial memoir, Spear.

He arrived in London on Friday, but was said to be returning to the US after celebrating his son’s birthday.

When he entered the abbey, dressed in his morning suit and donning medals, the prince appeared relaxed and was seen smiling at the guests as he walked through the nave of the abbey, before speaking with several members of the family.

Princess Beatrice’s husband Eduardo Mapelli laid Mozzi on his back with a smile on his face, before taking his place next to Jack Brooksbank – Princess Eugenie’s husband – in the third row. Also in the third row was Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

Watching the ceremony behind the King’s sister Princess Anne and the Duke of Kent, Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin, donned in a garter robe in the second row.

Ahead of them were the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as the King’s brother the new Duke of Edinburgh – Prince Edward – and his wife Sophie.

Previously, Prince Harry sat in the second row – directly behind the monarch – in Westminster Abbey for the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth last year.

The prince was seen in television footage watching intently as the Archbishop lifted St Edward’s Crown over his father’s head before his coronation.

Later, when the congregation paid tribute to the new monarch, Prince Harry was seen with other royals saying, “God save King Charles. Long live King Charles. May the King love forever.”

After landing at London Heathrow Airport on Friday morning, the prince was reported to have stayed at Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle on Friday night – as he and Meghan were requested by the monarch to be evicted.

His wife, the Duchess of Sussex, stayed in Los Angeles with their children, where their son, Prince Archie, will celebrate his fourth birthday.

A source told US outlet Page Six that Prince Harry intends to “make every effort to get back in time for Archie’s birthday.”

Buckingham Palace confirmed last month that Prince Harry would attend the ceremony alone.

Unlike other family members, he doesn’t wear robes or a uniform – despite the fact that he served in the military for ten years, including two tours in Afghanistan.

Relations between Prince Harry and other family members have been strained since the publication of his memoirs.

The book clearly exposed quarrels and disagreements with relatives, and since then he has spoken of feeling “different” from the rest of his family.

Meghan’s decision to decline the invitation is widely seen as part of these ongoing unresolved family tensions.

And last month it was revealed that the monarch had tried to stop Prince Harry from taking legal action against newspapers over the alleged phone hack.

In a witness statement that revealed court papers, Prince Harry said he was “summoned to Buckingham Palace” and asked to drop the cases because of the impact on the family.
