Microsoft announces changes to the EU data limit for Microsoft Cloud. Customers should now be able to store and process all personal data within the EU.
(red/chuck) Last year, as a first step, Microsoft created the ability to store and process customer data for software services and apps such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365 Services within the EU data border.
Accordingly, local storage and processing will now be extended to include all personal data, including so-called pseudonymous personal data contained in automated system logs. Microsoft is now another cloud provider offering this type of data residency to European customers.
New transparency resources via the dedicated Documentation Center website
The US software giant is also introducing new transparency resources that customers can view on a dedicated website for the EU Data Borders Trust Centre. Further investments in EU-certified technologies have also been recently announced to further improve the protection of pseudonymous personal data within borders.
“The EU data limits exceed European compliance requirements and demonstrate Microsoft's commitment to providing reliable cloud services that fully leverage the benefits of the public cloud while respecting European values,” Microsoft said in a statement.
